Samajwadi Party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav has won the Kannauj seat once again. He defeated BJP MP Subrat Pathak by a record margin of 170922 votes. Last time Subrat Pathak had snatched this seat from SP in a close contest. This time Akhilesh Yadav has made up for that defeat. BSP proved to be weak from the very beginning. There is an atmosphere of celebration among party workers and supporters due to Akhilesh Yadav’s victory.
On Tuesday, the counting of votes started at the Galla Mandi of the city at 8 am. First the ballot papers were counted. After that, the votes cast in EVMs were counted from around 9 am. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav started gaining lead from the votes received in the ballot papers, which kept increasing till the end. After the counting of the last round, Akhilesh Yadav was declared the winner by 170922 votes. Akhilesh Yadav got a total of 642292 votes. His nearest rival BJP’s Subrat Pathak came second with 471370 votes. BSP’s Imran Bin Zafar could not show any magic. He was seen lagging behind rapidly in every round of counting. He came third with a total of 81639 votes. A total of 15 candidates were in the fray from here. The remaining 12 candidates could not do anything amazing either. All of them were behind even the votes received by NOTA.
